Oh, how he wished so hard. He really wished it were so, but he dared not let the thought linger for too long. He had a job to do, and he planned on doing it as efficiently as possible. But sadly, he couldn’t help himself.

The little girl was so sweet and innocent. How could her mother be such a cruel mistress? How could a woman who drank and slept around and had no regard for the man she called her husband give birth to such an adorable and wonderful little angel?

Lara would be taught manners. Lara would be dealt with. Lara would learn to appreciate the things she had, because she took things for granted all the time. And she never cared what the consequences would be.

But now she would. And she would learn the hard way.

He watched as little Barbara slept, and marvelled at how beautiful she looked. He didn’t want to hurt her. He would never dream of such. But he had promised Lara punishment for disobeying.

He looked at little Barbara, and he knew what he had to do.

He had always enjoyed seeing pictures of American Halloween. How the people dressed up in different costumes and no one saw it as weird. It was a wonderful culture he had always wished he could be included in, but trying to dress up here would only bring stares and the occasional comment about being possessed.

Now, he had the chance to fulfil a fantasy of his. Only, rather than donning a costume, he would instead wear a disguise. The thought filled him with nervous excitement as he devised his plan. He needed a way to give Lara her penalty fee without exposing who he was. But he also needed to drop it at her doorstep.

But what if she showed up as he was dropping it? Then his disguise needed to be something that would allow him make such a move without raising suspicion. And then the disguise hit him. With energy following his steps, he carefully packaged his little gift to Lara, and dressed up in his disguise. It was several minutes after noon, so he had enough time to get things done and escape before her neighbours started coming back from school and work.

With rough make-up and fake facial hair, he took on the look of a deliveryman who was just scraping by with his work. Moving into the car, he took the package and headed off to Lara’s abode. It took him a while, but he was careful to not get too excited and have an accident on the road. It would all be for naught if things ended now, so he paced his driving, speeding only when he really needed to. In good time, he got close, and decided to park the car by the entrance of the street. That way, no one would get to see what he drove.

It was a risk to walk up all the way, but that only made the adrenaline surge rise up. He kept his eyes in front and resisted the urge to have them wander. He wanted no eye contact with anyone that happened to be around. When he got in front of Lara’s door, he contemplated knocking on the door, but decided against it. Better she opened the door and met the surprise without knowing where it came from. Plus, it would mess with her even more when she opened the package.

The delivery done, he walked briskly back to the end of the street, before getting into a trot and then a faster jog. When he got to the car, he trembled as he got the keys to open the door. Despite the jittery hands, he got the driver’s side open and slumped into the seat before slamming the door. Breathing heavily, he began to laugh at his success. It had gone great! There was no problem! Everything worked out fine! He looked at the rear-view mirror and noticed some of the makeup had rubbed off and part of the fake facial hair was hanging loose.

He didn’t care. He had succeeded. He pulled off the facial hair and smiled at himself in the mirror, then seemed to notice something. His heart beat faster when he thought he’d been caught, but there was nothing. For a moment, he thought he had seen movement at a window, but he had to be wrong. There was nothing there.

He started the car and drove out of the place, never noticing the curtain of the window he spied earlier move as it closed.
